What is this project about?
For this project we had to debate of what he had learned trough out the past two months. Our teachers, Ms. Kaitlin, and Mrs. Chen tought us about nuclear reactions, power plants, radiation, wind turbines, solar panels, hydro power and many more things.
What are wind turbines? wind turbines is a wheel rotated by the wind to generate electricity, but now it costs a lot of money to make and keep energy going. This can affect our community and it can also affect wildlife, it can affect the earth by having oil spills and many more negative stuff. The good things are that we will have a large amount of energy to last us a long time. We watched videos, read articles, discussed in our groups, and had a visitor that had experienced radiation problems to talk to the class. For me this was very interesting but sad at the same time, I know that many people that work in this type of works is very dangerous. My dad doesn't work in a nuclear power plant but he works at taking out the oil from the ground in the dessert. I know I'm very emotional but reading all this articles, and watching all this videos just reminded me of my dad. anyways, In my group of debates I had Diego Diez de Bonilla, Ilce Uribe, and Acel Dioso. We had one day to do debates with other teams and our own class. and we had to discuss about the pros, and cons, of radiation/ power plants. We won and then had to debate with other groups to see who will win the debate. Unfortunately we didn't win but I know that we put our hardest, and all cooperated. This was a very fun project.
The questions my group and I had to answer were this:
Question 1- Nuclear energy is better alternative to fossil fuels

The questions my group and I had to answer were this:
Question 1- Nuclear energy is better alternative to fossil fuels
- Focus Point #1: Does nuclear energy help solve the problem of global warming? Why or why not?
- Focus Point #2: What should be done about the current infrastructure of fossil fuel usage in our society?
- Focus Point #1: Is there a location that is fair and safe to store nuclear waste? Why r why not?
- Focus Point #2: Is there a safe process of transporting and storing nuclear waste? Why or why not?
- Focus Point #1: Do the benefits of nuclear outweigh the benefits of renewable energy?
- Focus Point #2: Are the benefits of nuclear energy higher than renewables if cost is included in the comparison?
- Focus Point #1: What are the limitations of nuclear fission?
- Focus Point #2: Are our energy needs going to continued to be the same?
- Focus Point #1: If an accident occurs, do the possible negative outcomes outweigh the benefits of nuclear energy?
- Focus Point #2: Can nuclear reactors be protected against human error, natural disasters and acts of terrorism?
What does CREW mean?
(Click here if you want to see our (CREW) worksheets)
The order in which this worksheets worked were
Claim- What we think, a specific question about the topic that our teachers choose.
Research- We had to put in what we had found,in our own words. Every single evidence that we could use for the debate had to be included in this box.
Evidence- the evidence of where we found everything. All the website links or how we found this information.
Warrant- This part was very important for me, Since we had to tell our warrant to the group we were debating against. If we had put in the claim that we were supposed to offer safety works for others, in the warrant we had to guarantee the other group what we had offered.
It was very easy to follow along with this format. I will choose this format if I had to do any other type of debate.

Reflection
As I already said this was a very interesting but sad project for me. I am very proud of me but also of the group I got, without them I would have been very confused. This project made me realized that many people work in dangerous works, Im thankful to still have my parents next to me. I also had to learn to listen to other's opinion, and give them good feedback that will help them in the future. but most important this project helped me speak for what I think, to give my opinion and not be afraid of what others will say.
